Jason Thompson

Credentialed Mental Health Nurse

Jason is an accomplished mental health practitioner with almost 20 years’ experience working in diverse settings in public and not-for-profit sectors.

Jason’s formal qualifications include: Bachelor of Social Science (with Honours, Swinburne University), Master of Nursing Science (Melbourne University) and a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (RMIT).

Jason has vast experience working with adolescents and adults presenting with a range of issues including: depression; anxiety; trauma; substance use and addiction; self-harm and suicidality; grief and loss; and relationship difficulties.

Jason draws on a range of evidence-based treatments but works mainly from a solution focused brief therapy (SFBT) approach. This approach generally results in positive outcomes with fewer sessions meaning clients spend less time in therapy and more time getting on with life. SFBT is particularly helpful with entrenched issues where other approaches have not been successful.

Jason works from a client-centred and strengths-based approach helping clients move towards their preferred future while drawing on and enhancing their own internal resources and capabilities.

Jason sees clients (18 and older) through the Western Victoria Primary Health Network (GP referral required, no fee) and privately (full fee service) either face to face, telehealth or a combination of the two.

Jason is available after hours and weekends and can be contacted on 0416 754 383
